TokGrab Troubleshooting

Start here: storage/logs/laravel.log usually contains the real error message.

500 Error on First Load

Since v1.0.0, TokGrab creates a .env file and application key automatically on first load, so a missing APP_KEY should no longer be the cause.

If you still see a 500:

  • Confirm storage/ and bootstrap/cache/ are writable by the web server.
  • Confirm PHP is 8.3+.
  • Confirm the package root (not just public/) was uploaded, and the document root points to public/.
  • Check storage/logs/laravel.log for the exact exception.

"Unable to create .env" or settings won't save

The account/app folder is not writable. Set the package folder permission so the web server can write .env, or create .env from .env.example manually and try again.

Installer Shows FAIL on the Environment Step

Each row must pass before you can continue:

  • Missing extension — enable it in your hosting panel's PHP settings (e.g. intl, zip, gd).
  • Writable folder FAIL — fix permissions on storage/ and bootstrap/cache/.
  • PHP version FAIL — switch to PHP 8.3 or higher in your hosting panel.

Database Connection Error

Double-check in the installer:

  • DB host (often 127.0.0.1 or localhost)
  • DB port (usually 3306)
  • DB name, DB username, DB password
  • The user has all privileges on that database

Use MySQL/MariaDB in production. SQLite is only offered in local/development mode.

/install Redirects to the Homepage

That is expected — the installer is locked after a successful install (storage/app/installed.lock). To reinstall, see the Installation Guide.

API Calls Failing

See the API Providers Guide. Common causes:

  • Wrong Base URL / Host (the RapidAPI dashboard "Request URL" is not the endpoint domain).
  • Key is inactive or out of quota.
  • Hosting blocks outbound HTTP/cURL.

SSL / certificate error on the connection test

PHP needs a valid CA bundle. Configure curl.cainfo / openssl.cafile to a cacert.pem, or enable the system bundle. This is a server SSL problem, not a bad API key.

Uploaded Logo or Favicon Doesn't Display

Brand images are stored under storage/app/public/ and served from /storage/....

TokGrab serves these automatically, even on hosts that block symlinks. As an optional performance step, you can also create the standard link:

  • With SSH: run php artisan storage:link.
  • Without SSH: nothing to do — the built-in fallback already serves the images.

If an image still doesn't show, confirm the upload succeeded in Admin → Settings → Logo and Visuals.

Contact Form / Emails Not Sending

  • Verify SMTP host, port, username, and password.
  • Use a real mailbox on your domain as the sender.
  • Some hosts block outbound SMTP ports; try 587 (TLS) or 465 (SSL).
  • Test from Admin → Settings → SMTP → Test.

Ads Not Showing

  • Verify the ad snippet is valid HTML/JS.
  • Inline event handlers (onclick=), javascript: URLs, and server-side tags are blocked by design.
  • Confirm your ad network account is active.

After an Upgrade, New Features Don't Appear

New database tables may be needed. See the Upgrade Guide for the safe flow.
